The heart and vision behind Gentle Journeys

Gentle Journeys was born from the heart of Donna Vella, who believes that life is both messy and magical—and that with mindful attention, we can expand our capacity to hold and honor it all.

Anchored in the belief that every life transition is an invitation to grow, heal, and begin again, Gentle Journeys is Donna’s offering to those seeking a more intentional way of moving through the world. Through workshops, gatherings and guided practices, she invites others to root themselves in gratitude and rediscover joy, resilience, and presence in each unfolding moment.

Donna brings warmth, wit, and wisdom to every workshop, gathering, and talk she leads. Her work weaves together mindfulness, positive psychology, and the healing presence of the natural world to inspire transformation and well-being. Whether guiding circles, speaking on stage, or spending time with family, Donna embodies the truth she teaches: that we can show up, shine, and embrace life with courage and grace.

A Rochester, NY native and graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Donna now lives with her husband, Mike, in Sandy Hook, Connecticut.

My own path has been anything but straight. My life has held both exquisite joy and profound trauma, with twists, turns, and more than a few fresh starts. Each shift—whether born of choice, change, or challenge—has been an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and walk with greater intention. Over time, I’ve come to see this not as a detour, but as a pilgrimage.

Gentle Journeys was born from this pilgrimage—shaped by my lived experience and the trainings that have supported my own healing and growth. As a Kripalu-Certified Mindful Outdoor Guide, I’ve learned how a more intimate relationship with the natural world can restore us when we learn to listen. My certifications in Positive Psychology and Teaching for Transformation through the Wholebeing Institute have given me a framework for understanding human flourishing—how the inner landscape of mind and heart is inseparable from the outer landscape of nature, community, and daily life.

I also carry the wisdom of Mother Earth, the more-than-human world, ancestors, loved ones, and the many teachers who have walked alongside me.

My passion is to help others navigate their own unique journeys by asking meaningful questions such as, “Who am I at my best?” and “What values guide the way I live and lead?” I believe that when we learn to care more deeply—for our planet, for future generations, and for one another—we unlock the true essence of happiness.

My Inspiration!

My greatest teacher and inspiration is my granddaughter, whose presence—and the presence of all children—reminds me daily of the wonder of life and the sacred responsibility we share to cultivate generosity of heart, well-being, and care for the earth. Gentle Journeys is my way of sharing what moves me—an offering of love and appreciation for this magnificent world, in the hope that this circle of wonder continues to grow for generations to come.
